As an employer of domestic staff, you have similar responsibilities toward your employees at home as commercial employers do. These include UIF, COID, and employment contracts, as well as issuing a detailed payslip each month, as mandated by Sectoral Determination 7. The payslip should disclose the rate of pay, deductions, and net pay, and record all types of leave taken. Domestic Workers are entitled to annual leave, sick leave, maternity leave, and family responsibility leave (if working four or more days a week).

At Domestic Support, we handle full payroll services for our clients. Through our Monthly Compliance service, we manage UIF declarations, ensure UIF payments are made, issue detailed payslips in PDF format via email, manage all leave balances, and provide access to our self-service payroll system.

If your employee earns income above the tax threshold set by SARS, they are liable to pay tax on their income. Employers must register with SARS for PAYE. Monthly EMP201 submissions to SARS, along with remitting withheld taxes, are required from employers.
